We are passionate about what we do and love to help educate people about the fields we run around in on a daily basis. From circular economy designing and sustainable living, to our decade long specialist research area of ocean plastics and the role design has in positively changing our future, Claire delivers energetic lectures, talks and workshops to both industry and public alike.

The recent growing interest in our research area of plastic (and ocean plastic) has also meant that we are asked to regularly comment on developing news. In 2018 we have featured live on the BBC, BBC Radio Sussex, Sky News and Sky Ocean Rescue, along with multiple expert appearances on short documentaries. Want us to talk? Just shout.

Claire is also an Associate at the University of Sussex, teaching on a variety of subjects, including her own authored modules ‘The Role of Design in the Circular Economy’ and ‘Design for Industry’ on the BSc Product Design degree – we are also firm believers that we need to be educating the next generation of designers in circular thinking – and that design can be driver of great change.

selected events…

‘Marine Plastics – the role of the supply chain’, Interface UK, Clerkenwell Design Week 2018 Our relationship with single-use plastics has been altering hugely over the last few years, yet from a specification point of view, we need industry to step up and realise the potential of recovered materials. Interface already have a series of initiatives in this vein, and it was great to be on a panel of experts hosted by National Geographic explorer Paul Rose to discuss, debate and answer questions on what part the supply chain can play in tackling marine plastics. A short video of the event is below.

6th International Marine Debris Conference, San Diego 2018 The 6IMDC is the seminal global event in the marine debris calendar – this year the CPD studio presented twice in the technical session entitled ‘How circular economy and cross-sectoral collaborations can unlock solutions for eliminating ghost fishing gear’. We introduced the concept of utilising waste fishing industry material as part of a new circular economy as well as our research project – Project Net·Worth, which was co-funded by Innovate UK.

Claire has presented three 6min 40 PechaKucha talks (and is now the resident MC for the Brighton events). Here is one talk from 2016 which introduces the studio’s research – including what eventually became our now international campaign – Plastic Free Pledge

We also have an occasional podcast… Radio Loo (as we are based in Studio Loo – a converted WC) covers everything from design chat to chat with designers and creatives. Find it in all the usual podcast places…
